In Greek mythology, Arachne was a mortal girl of unmatched skill in weaving. The goddess Athena, offended by Arachne's arrogance, turned her into the first spider.
This myth inspires me because both spiderwebs and woven tapestries are beautiful examples of mathematical patterns.
I study music, dance, and the mathematics of music theory at Louisiana State University. I am inspired by math and music theory, the inner structure of music and harmony. I take music-theory models and explore their applications in other creative arts, including dance composition, visual art, and textile arts - knitting, crochet, blanket weaving, quilting, etc. I can actually compose in the media of dance composition and textile arts; but I stick to analyzing visual art, as I'm by no means a trained artist. Sigh.
