Musicology nerd moment

Last night in rehearsal, I realized that the Harry Potter theme song is a Sicilienne/Siciliano.

Evidence: first, consider the theme song. Here's a refresher:
Main Title/Hedwig's Theme
Aaahhh, that is a brilliant celesta solo.

Now consider the rhythmic similarity of the Sicilienne from Faure's Pelleas and Melissande suite.

So the question is, why would John Williams drawn on an Italian pastoral dance, conventionally used to set a carefree and idyllic mood, to evoke magic and mystery?

THESIS TIME.
